Mercedes had a disappointing start in Miami with a pointless Sprint and a fourth-row qualifying lockout. Despite being eight-tenths behind polesitter Max Verstappen, Russell believes they can improve in the race. He acknowledged that Mercedes is currently behind McLaren and Ferrari and significantly behind Red Bull. The team introduced an upgrade package but Russell admitted they may have overcompensated with changes and need to improve quickly. He is optimistic that Mercedes understands how to address the issues but admits it will take time to implement solutions due to the lengthy process of developing upgrades in F1.
